The Jeanneau Fantasia is constructed by the famous french naval architect Philippe Harlé. He has made over 200 ships in 30 years. He was born in 1932 and died in 1992. Harlé designed his first boat in 1963, le Muscadet. Most of his designs bear a name of some nice drinks: Aquavit, Sangria, Cognac, Baeujolais, Chablis, Armagnac, Sancerre. In fact, most of the names for the boats were chosen from regions of wine (Beaujolais, Chablis, Sancerre, etc). Other are based on cocktails (the multihulls "Punch" for example) The name Fantasia has nothing to do with booze - or perhaps it has. The name is taken from the world of music. A Fantasia is a musical composition from the renaissance. Originally a piece of music made totally out of the composers own ideas. Most famous is Johann Sebastian Bachs "Fantasia and fugue for the Organ." In this century the british composer Ralph Vaugn Williams made "Fantasia on a theme of Thomas Thalis in 1910. In all 1800 Fantasias were built in the period from 1982 to 1996. Today they are found all over the globe. Some with lift keel for use in shallow waters. This is probarbly why Fantasias are rumoured to drop their keel on occations. Has anyone heard stories like this please come forward. Others again has a twin keel. The Jeanneau shipyard is one of the worlds largest shipyeards for leisure boats. It started in 1957. Together with Beneteau they are now the largest manufacturers of leisure boats in the world.
